Copyright and takedowns
Reporting an image
If a photograph on ClipYA infringes your copyright, or shows you and you want it removed, email nick@getclipya.com with:
- The URL of the clip
- What you are claiming — that you own the copyright, or that you are the person shown
- Enough for us to verify it: the original file, a capture date, or proof of identity
- A statement, made in good faith, that the use is not authorised
- Your name and contact details
We acknowledge every report within two business days.
What happens next
Clear-cut claims get the image hidden immediately while we investigate. The photographer is told what was claimed and by whom, and has ten business days to respond. If they file a counter-notice with a credible basis, we may restore the image and let the two parties resolve it directly.
Repeat infringers
Every upheld claim against a photographer is a strike. Strikes stay active for 12 months. Three active strikes suspends the account automatically: sign-in and uploads are blocked, every clip is unpublished, and pending payouts are held. Reinstatement is a manual review — email nick@getclipya.com.
Removal requests from people in photographs
You do not need to own the copyright to ask. Surf photography is taken in public, and the law generally permits it, but ClipYA will remove an image of an identifiable person on request where the person is not a public figure acting in a professional capacity. We would rather lose a sale than keep a photograph someone does not want online.
Buyers
If an image you bought is later removed on a copyright claim, we refund you in full.
Misuse
Filing a knowingly false claim to get a competitor's work removed will end your account.
